RealXtend 0.3 released!

RealXtend 0.3 has been released. There are new versions for both viewer and server available our downloads page.

Official press release

The realXtend July release includes exciting new avatar features and an important step towards the 3D Internet in the form of the first public avatar portability service.

The realXtend architecture is designed from the start to support an interconnected network of virtual worlds, and now is the time to take the next step towards the 3D internet. realXtend offers access to the first public avatar service for a group of pioneers interested in being among the first to try out the new way of browsing virtual worlds. Since the realXtend avatar portability service is free for everyone to setup, more public services are likely to follow shortly, so don't worry, eventually there will be room for everyone! Contact info@realxtend.org if you're interested in trying out the new service.

Since february the realXtend development team has been focusing heavily on the avatar, and the results are now available for everyone to see. The basic models have been greatly improved and they are now more customizable than before. Together with the option to use FaceGen to generate the looks of the avatar, it is now possible to create avatars that are a close match to what their users look like - or would like to look like - in reality. The new software and videos showcasing the new features can be found on the realXtend website at www.realXtend.org.

realXtend offers a free, open source virtual worlds platform, on top of which you can build your own applications.

The realXtend viewer is an open source virtual worlds browser that you can use to experience rich multiuser virtual worlds.

The realXtend server is an open source server, with which you can make your own virtual worlds available to a larger audience. The server has a sample virtual world that you can utilise as it is or you can modify it to suit your needs. realXtend also offers free, high-quality content for your own worlds.

realXtend mission is to speed up the development of the global standardized 3D-web of virtual worlds by making the best technology available to everyone, entirely free of charge.
